Overview

Battle of Verdun is a large-scale multiplayer World War I experience developed on the Roblox platform by Anatolia Studios. The project recreates the atmosphere of one of history's most defining battles through team-based combat, trench warfare, artillery positions, armored vehicles, and historically inspired battlefield environments — translating the weight of the era into a playable digital space.

Gameplay

Designed for large servers, the game pits two teams against each other in 20 vs 20 battles, with players free to switch between first-person and third-person perspectives. This combination creates a flexible combat experience: first-person for tactical immersion at the front line, third-person for broader battlefield awareness and coordinated team strategy.

  • 20 vs 20 battles — built for large servers and sustained, large-scale engagements
  • Trench warfare — fortified positions, artillery emplacements, and contested no-man's-land
  • Armored vehicles — period-inspired machinery integrated into the battlefield
  • Dual perspective — seamless first-person and third-person gameplay for immersion and awareness
  • Historical theming — environments and atmosphere grounded in the real Battle of Verdun

International Collaboration

The project was developed through international collaboration, bringing together contributors from countries including Türkiye, Cyprus, the Netherlands, Norway, Iceland, and the United States. Coordinating across time zones and disciplines, the team combined game design, software development, 3D environment creation, historical theming, and multiplayer systems into a single cohesive production.

Battle of Verdun demonstrates the potential of independent, student-led game development to create immersive digital experiences through global teamwork and technical creativity — the foundation on which Anatolia Studios went on to build projects like the Virtual Physics Laboratory. The game remains open to players on Roblox.
